The Amendments Project

2021 – 2025

The Amendments Project (PI Jill Lepore) compiles, classifies, and analyzes every significant attempt to revise the U.S. Constitution from 1787 to the present — more than 12,000 congressional proposals and thousands more from the public, of which only 27 have been ratified. The project aims, in Lepore’s words, “to recover a lost tradition of constitutional tinkering and to rekindle Americans’ constitutional imagination.”

I worked with David Flood and the DARTH team on the data pipeline (NER, pattern recognition, content analysis, scraping) and the public-facing visualization platform. Funded by the Harvard Data Science Initiative, an NEH Digital Projects for the Public grant, and the Inequality in America Initiative. The site officially launched July 4, 2023.
